This developmental disorder severely impairs communication (both verbal and non-verbal) and social interaction. It impacts the child’s educational performance. If a child has been diagnosed with ASD, the child needs to be taught in a special environment that is tailored for him/her. The child learns at his/her pace with teachers the child feels safe being with. Being autistic does not mean that the child is in any way sub-par to ‘normal’ children in intelligence, he/she has a learning style that is different and many more emotional challenges to overcome, before he/she can concentrate on learning.
