Emotional Disturbance
Teaching Children with Emotional Disturbance
An inability to learn, that cannot be explained by sensory, intellectual or health factors is often caused by emotional disturbances. An inability to maintain satisfactory social relations with peers. Inappropriate or irregular behaviour that do not appear to be triggered by any event or surrounding. An overall feeling of gloom or depression and developing symptoms of fear about certain situations, people, or places. These situations raise red flags about the child’s emotional health and can impact his/her learning and academic performance. These children need an environment where they feel safe and cared for, to concentrate on learning. Once a child feels secure with his/her tutor, the child opens up about his/her emotional turmoil which makes it easier to get to the root of the triggers.
